One of our goals in Sophomore Academy is to facilitate a smooth transition from 9th to 10th grade by helping students and parents increase their knowledge of A-G requirements to help students build overall awareness of their college and career goals. A final goal of the Sophomore Academy is to help students increase their G.P.A through consistent communication with academy staff to provide necessary supports to ensure their success. As an academy staff building positive relationships with our students by providing both academic and behavioral supports is what we are passionate about and will continue to strive to achieve!

The Sophomore Academy will soon begin the yearly California English Language Development Test (CELDT). The purpose of the test is to identify students who are English Language Learners, and to determine their level of English proficiency. This information is then used to help identify English learners who need to develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English with the ultimate goal of helping those students be proficient in English in all areas.

As a Sophomore Academy team, we meet routinely to discuss all aspects of student success by analyzing student grade performance, attendance and tardy rates and tracking of student credits attained. Through a positive and collegial partnership with everyone associated with Washington Union High School; I am confident we will promote student learning and growth.
